The Willie Mae Way

We integrate music with creative technology in an affirming and supportive learning environment that centers intergenerational mentorship, and is where students discover the full potential of their creative voices. Willie Mae Rock Camp offers afterschool, school break, and summer programming open to girls and gender-expansive youth ages 10-17—and our programs are always free. Sign up here for updates!

Music Lab Afterschool

Our afterschool program consists of three series: Foundations, Skills & Practice, and Creative Independence. Music Lab teaches students the fundamentals of digital music production through a STEM-based curriculum, promotes both independent and collaborative projects, and prepares students for future creative careers and opportunities.

Currently, we have rolling enrollment open for Series One and Series Two.

Minicamps

Our minicamps are three-day, full-day camps that take place during school breaks such as Mid-Winter Recess and Spring Break. Minicamps centers students as creators engaging with ideas such as the cultural lineage of Detroit Techno, Hip-Hop elements, and interactive audio-video practices—culminating in a showcase for friends and family.

Currently, registration is open for our  April Hip-Hop Minicamp.

One-Week Summer Camp

Summer camp is a week-long collaborative and creative program that teaches students the skills to produce a musical project. Campers learn an instrument, form bands, and work together to write, perform, and record an original song! At the end, everyone will have a chance to debut their new band to the Willie Mae community.
