Summer Workshops

Produced in tandem with our community partners, our summer workshops engages the broader Willie Mae Rock Camp  community of youth and adults, in order to deepen the organization’s commitment to anti-oppression work through the lens of music and political education.

Workshops range from critical dialogues, to art-making, personal growth practice, and more. No previous experience with WMRC, or musical instruction, necessary. Workshops happen in various locations throughout NYC.

Jumpstart is a summer rock camp for girls and/or gender non-binary youth ages 5 – 7.  Based on the organization’s award-winning program for older youth, Jumpstart gives campers the opportunity to write their own music and experiment with sound and movement through a wide variety of fun activities.

The camp week includes workshops on musical instruments (drums, guitar, bass, vocals and keyboards), performances by visiting artists, art activities like button-making, and of course, the all-time favorite: band practice!

Willie Mae Future Sounds

Willie Mae Future Sounds Summer Camp is two weeks of girls, trans, or gender non conforming youth creating digital content virtually - from collaborative songwriting, to podcasting, to synths, to music production. This all supports our mission of youth creating the sounds of the future and letting themselves be heard, seen, and represented. The students will meet for three hours a day, Monday through Friday for two weeks.
