Year-Round Programs

Arts & Activism

This FREE after-school and summer program provides an exciting opportunity for teens to learn about the powerful combination of music and social justice, develop practical journalism and new technology skills, build community, and of course, have fun!

In one day, students build technique and confidence through a songwriting and vocal performance clinic, develop rhythm and performance skills on bucket drums, and make visual art, using collage and zine-making as their medium.

Collective positive reinforcement is also encouraged through the use and display of a "Shout Out" wall that is visible for all students, teachers and participants to encourage public displays of love and support of one another.

Rhythm & Voice

Rhythm & Voice is our free after-school and in-school program in which teen girls and/or gender non-binary youth in grades 6-12 work with an exceptional WMRC music educator once a week, at each of 3 different partner schools that are a part of the The Young Women's Leadership Schools (TYLWS) network.

Willie Mae Music Lab

Willie Mae Music Lab is our year-round, music and mentoring program. Students do not need prior musical experience and tuition is sliding scale. All classes are taught by experienced women (transgender & cisgender) and/or gender non-binary educators from the Willie Mae Rock Camp volunteer base. We offer instrument classes or digital music production in 8-week cycles, with a recital at the end of each cycle.
