Announcing the 2nd Annual Willie Mae-ra-thon Benefit Concert Weekend and Satellite Events!

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls, a non-profit educational summer arts program serving girls ages 8-18 in New York City, is pleased to announce our upcoming fundraising event to raise money for scholarships to send girls to camp this summer.

Musicians band together to help fund scholarships to send girls to Rock Camp by way of the second annual "Willie Mae-ra-thon" – a benefit weekend of WMRC-sponsored shows and events, running May 8-11, 2008 at venues in Brooklyn & Manhattan. 5 shows over 4 nights including an afternoon Cake Shop matinee, starring nearly 25 bands (including Vivian Girls, Adam Matta, Honeychild, Each Other's Mothers, The Minetta, Magnolia, and Slaywhore), who will do their most furious rockin’ out in the name of Willie Mae Rock Camp from Union Pool to Cake Shop, Glasslands to Pete’s Candy Store to other points in between. Come for the music, stay for the crafts and a raffle, body paint, & trapeze artists! All proceeds go to the Willie Mae Rock Camp scholarship fund. A list of shows is below. Also of note for the weekend is Silent Barn & Horse+Dragon NYC's independently sponsored show at Silent Barn in Ridgewood, Queens featuring the lovely sounds of Samara Lubelski, The Mad Scene, The Vandelles, and Kate Ferencz. Bake sale goods, celebration, and music through the night with all proceeds going to directly support WMRC summer scholarships.
