HOW MUCH

Tuition for the weekend is $500. Full tuition must be included with your registration form.

Can you afford to pay more? If you can contribute more than the basic tuition amount, Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls will enthusiastically accept your generous donation.

Unfortunately we cannot offer scholarships or do tradesÑthis is a fundraising event, and a critically important one. The proceeds from Ladies Rock Camp are making it possible for us to do two sessions of Rock Camp for Girls this year and helping ensure that we can offer the financial aid needed to make sure Rock Camp is accessible to all girls regardless of income level. If you would like to pay in installments, we're happy to figure something out. For more information, please email emily@williemaerockcamp.org

WHAT HAPPENS AT LADIES ROCK CAMP

Instrument instruction

Participants choose one instrument to focus on for the weekend. The choices are drums, bass, guitar, or vocals. The instruction is led by experienced and enthusiastic women musicians, and happens in small groups or one-on-one lessons. All levels of experience are welcome, from Ònever played music beforeÓ to Òpiano when I was a kidÓ to ÒI play guitar in my band but I've always wanted to play drums.Ó

Workshops

Throughout the weekend, workshops are held on a variety of topics, from Screenprinting/Making Band Art to Songwriting (it's not as hard as you might think). Other possible topics: Sound and Recording; Zine-making (ÒWhat's a Ôzine?Ó); Music Videos, the Media & You; Self-Defense; History of Women Who Rock; and How to Book a Tour. Feel free to express your workshop preferences or suggest a topic on the registration form. If we can pull it off, we'll offer it.

Band Practice
On the first day, everyone forms bands in a way that is fun, not scary. The bands have band practice every day. During band practice, band members work together to write a song, and practice playing as an ensemble. Band coaches are available to help bands with the writing process, facilitate the rehearsals, and answer questions as necessary (ÒHow do I tune this thing?Ó). On Sunday night, everyone performs their songs at the big Ladies Rock Camp all-ages showcase concert, which will be held at a professional music venue.

Fun activities

At Rock Camp, we know how to have a good time. The camp day is interspersed with fun stuff, from warm-upgames to making buttons with your band name.

CAPACITY

Space at each session is limited to 50 participants.

ADMISSIONS POLICY

We will have a waiting list, which will be capped at 20 people per session. If you are next on the waiting list, you will be notified immediately if someone drops out. Please don't call us, we'll call you!

WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP EACH DAY

  • Earplugs and a water bottle. There are plenty of water fountains, but we highly recommend bringing a bottle to make it easier to stay hydrated while you rock out!
  • If you have your own guitar or bass, feel free to bring it. If you don't have one, or prefer not to bring yours, we will provide you with the instruments you need.

ACCOMMODATIONS FOR OUT OF TOWNERS
